"After battling back and forth, my husband and I finally settled on Hawaii and I thought the hard part was done. Ha! I can't tell you how overwhelmed I soon became. Maui or Kauai? Wailea or Kaanapali? Condo or hotel? January or June? I felt myself feeling more anxious than excited about what was supposed to be a dream vacation for us. It seems the more I researched, the more confused I became. Happily, I stumbled upon "Maui Revealed" at a local bookstore. I browsed it and found that it was exactly what I was looking for: chock full of information and refreshingly honest. The website, with its aerial shots of the hotels and reviews, was an added bonus. We enjoyed Maui so much that we plan to return. I don't know whether we'll end up in Maui or Kaanapali or whether we'll travel in August or November. But I do know that the latest edition of "Maui Revealed" will be in my overnight bag. Thanks for a great book and happy travels!"

Aerial View

151 units, 2 pools, spa, 2 restaurants, bbq, maid service every third day. Managed by Outrigger, the grounds are tidy and the rooms well kempt. Studios are 540 sq. ft. but feel bigger, while the 675 sq. ft. 1/1s don't seem worth the extra money. Also, the studios have a queen and a twin bed, so they'll sleep 3 comfortably. Local calls are 50¢ and room safes are $1.50. They are close to, but not on, Napili Beach. They seem pretty quick to say "ocean view" with marginal view rooms. For instance, Building 61-68 has poor views. The lanai walls effectively block ocean views from most of the rooms we saw. (I guess you could walk out onto the lanai and crane your head, but that makes for a pretty weak "ocean view.") Their breakfast and lunch restaurant, Gazebo, is a winner and they have free coffee, but there's usually a long wait. They updated the rooms in 2006 with variable results. Their morning "orientations" are simply a means to sell you activities. Studios are $239-$335, 1/1s are $299-$365.
