59 units, 2 pools, bbqs, hi-speed Internet access in units, 2 tennis courts, basketball court, air conditioning, free room safes, daily maid service every three days. Don’t be confused by the name; they’re not in the town of Ma‘alaea. Landscapers do a great job; the resort looks clean and well maintained. Rooms are upscale and very comfortable. There are eight 2-story walk-up buildings scattered around the 5 acres, and all seem to have nice views. Buildings A, D and H have glorious oceanfront locations. Compared to their more institutional-looking neighbors, this resort really embraces the ocean. Ma‘alaea Surf isn’t cheap, but it’s upscale for Kihei. Rooms are large and nicely furnished. Some of the 2/2s are loft-style (with spiral staircases), but we prefer the one-story, ground floor 2/2 units. 1/1s (759 sq. ft.) are $285–$335, 2/2s (1,100 sq. ft.) are $380–$450. 3-night minimum.
