394 rooms, 2 pools, keiki pool, spa, Wi-Fi, 2 shops, 2 restaurants (one more planned at press time), 3 tennis courts (2 lighted), valet parking, 8 conference rooms, coin-op laundry, coffee makers with free coffee daily, PlayStation, fitness center (with an inspiring view), 2 massage rooms. The Sheraton is the perfect complement to the Hyatt. While the Hyatt excels at gorgeous and exotic grounds, the Sheraton boldly embraces the ocean. The Ocean and Beach wings are closer to the ocean than at any other major Kaua'i hotel. The sound of the surf hitting the rocks below the Ocean Wing is soothing. Kiahuna Beach, in front of the Beach Wing, is wonderfully close and easy to access. The Garden Wing is generally lacking but is cheaper, and we're not as fond of the rooms there. All rooms are on the small side (410 sq. ft. for the garden view, 510 sq. ft. for Ocean and Beach), were renovated in 2006 and don't feel particularly Hawaiian. But the resort makes up for it with its cozy relationship with the water. Most rooms are connected to others by a lock-off--good for families needing more than one room. Their restaurants, Naniwa and Shells, have incredible beach views. Kids (under 12) eat free with a paying adult at Shells, and they have a child care program for $50 per day. (They'll even accept kids staying at other resorts for a little extra.) Couples can enjoy a private oceanside dinner for $350.

The beachside pool is nice, and they have a small waterslide. Cabana chairs are $30 per day. Sheraton has a mandatory resort fee of $17 per day, which includes self-parking (a long walk), free local calls, room safe, tennis courts and a few other doodads. When picking a room, this is one of those places where it's worth the extra money to spring for an ocean view room. They have free mai tais from 5–6 p.m. Ask for an "escape rate" when you reserve. Rates are $420-$775. Suites (1,000-2,000 sq. ft.) are $1,600-$3,500. Renovations to the common areas were planned at press time.
