Breakfast is served on the lanai and can feature some unusual local flavors like hash brown Taro. Distant views of Hilo Bay from this grand 1899 Victorian home on 5+ acres owned by the Shipman family since 1901. It is fully restored, very well-kept and furnished mostly with their heirloom pieces. Located across the bridge from mid-town Hilo in the hilly Reed's Island neighborhood, you can pretty much walk to town. The bathrooms, although not very large, are new and modern but done in a vintage style. Fresh-cut awapuhi (true shampoo ginger) in the showers. Nice touch. Linen service every couple of days. They make no bones about their very specific rules and quirks. For instance, children 13 and up may be accommodated upon approval only. Rooms in main house or separate cottage (374-400 sq.ft.) are $219-$249. |
