The best selling guide to the Big Island... Hawaii "My family and I have been coming to Hawaii for many years and your guidebooks are the best on the market." |
Royal Kona Resort (800) 222-5642 or (808) 329-3111 75-5852 Alii Dr. ![]() 436 rooms, 4 tennis courts (3 lighted), coffee makers in rooms with free coffee daily, free room safes, pool and keiki pool, coin-op laundry, Wi-Fi in lobby, business center, 5 conference rooms, hair salon, lu'au. Although they have a nice oceanfront location in downtown Kona (you can walk anywhere from here), the resort had gone way downhill and was mostly refurbished at press time. The rooms are much fresher in all but the Bay Tower (which is to be avoided). The common areas now need attention as well. Owned by tour giant Pleasant Holidays, rates are cheaper if you book a package through them. (They'd better be.) Of the three buildings, the Lagoon Building is the quietest in terms of human activity. They don't have a beach, but there is a saltwater lagoon to swim in. Rooms (350 sq. ft.) are $130-$430 (The $130 price will get you a non-renovated room which we do not recommend). Suites are $275-$680. Their rack rate is simply ridiculous. And you'll pay $10 a day to park and $1 for a local call. |
